Great question. I would find ways to incorporate technology as follows. Lets start with the use of computers. I would have students access supplemental coursework online or in digital format. I would also make use of Smartboards in the classroom as well as the use of document cameras (AKA Elmo)to show text or images via overhead projector as needed. These are some general suggestions, however more advanced concepts can be incorporated specific to the grade level being taught.
I start by making it a part of the classroom curriculum. I have the kids use the technology instead of just me using it. For example, in many of my English classes, I have had the kids creating projects using software such as PowerPoint, Dreamweaver or MovieMaker to explore the Renaissance or to analyze poetry.
As a Business & IT teacher, my question has always been "how do I integrate content into the technology". Since application resources are non-specific content, I'll use a text-book in personal finance, business law, economics, etc.
In reverse I would do the same. Find a book or on-line resources, such as "Fun Projects Using Word" (or whatever application you wanted to focus on.
I integrate technology with my yearbook club. At this time we are using digital cameras and computers at our computer lab. Our yearbook club has just started and we are trying to raise the funds to provide more tech. tools. We do use programs such as photoshop and other online tools to develop our yearbook.
